The Public Utilities Department has multi-functions on various tasks and activities to provide essential services for the city.  The three services that fall under the Public Utilities Department include:

  • Wastewater Department

  • Water Department

  • Engineering & Drafting Department

Each department (except Engineering and Drafting) has a director to serve as an administrator to provide daily activities to fulfill the department requirements.

The Public Utilities Department generally provides guidance and technical supports to the departments.  The Division also provide surveying, engineering design, AutoCad drafting, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Engineering designs include water transmission, sewer collection, lift station, reclaimed water transmission, roadway, and stormwater retrofits.  Both the surveying and drafting provide support and assistant to the engineering design.  In additions, both the drafting and GIS provide valuable digital information to the city such as city maps, utility maps, road maps, drainage maps, land use maps, annexation maps, utility service boundary maps, city limit maps etc.  All the digital information and maps are currently available from the network servers.

The Public Utilities Department also provide technical specifications, project bid assistant, construction coordination and field inspections, engineering plan reviews, permitting and other technical assistant and support.  Both the water transmission, sewer force main, reclaimed water transmission and stormwater retrofits projects are generally constructed in house by the Water Department and Public Works Department.
